Here’s One Thing That May Be Ruining Your Golf Game!

I work with a lot of professional and top level amateur golfers. I’m not a golfer (believe me that’s to my advantage in working with golfers!), but I’m constantly learning about golf.

When I’ve watched tournaments on the weekend, I am stunned by the golf commentary during a tournament. In fact, I think it might be ruining your golf game!

Golf commentary is filled with negative talk and warnings about what is and is not possible to accomplish.

Whether you realize it or not, commentators are contaminating your mind and body with beliefs that can have a negative impact on your performance on the course.

If you’ve been playing golf and watching tournaments for a long time, I’m sure you don’t even hear what they are really saying because you believe what they’re telling you is true in the world of golf.

Let me give you some examples of some things said during one PGA tournament that have the potential to be ruining your golf game:

“He got scared with those.”

When the player made a birdie instead of an eagle, the announcer said, “That’s too bad – that puts him back to 10 under.”

“It’s impossible to miss this putt left.”

“Even if he holes in, it will be demoralizing (bogey).”

“It just went on the wrong side of the hole.”

Davis looks up and announcer says, “Oh, what am I gonna do?” as if he knows what Davis is thinking because he looked up.

I decided to conduct an experiment during one of the major PGA tournaments to see how many negative comments vs. positive comments the color commentators made during one hour.

I made through a half hour and had to stop! There were 75 negative comments to 30 positive comments. I couldn’t sit and listen to that for another half hour!

Your subconscious (and conscious) mind are listening to what these guys are telling you over this four hour period and you are not realizing the negative imprints they are making on your subconscious mind.

You have picked up beliefs that may or may not be true for you based on what you’ve heard them say over and over again during these tournaments.

Your conscious and subconscious minds are being poisoned and you don’t even realize it!

I have two simple suggestions to stop the commentators from ruining your golf game:

First, watch one entire golf tournament without the sound on and see for yourself what is happening and how you respond to it.

See what conclusions you arrive at without the commentators input. You may be surprised.

The truth is this that either the pro golfer makes the shot or he doesn’t, either the ball goes into the hole or it doesn’t.

All the other stuff these color commentators have to say is just about filling time and it’s just their opinion or based on their personal experience. And, you end up letting them define your experience.

Second, with the sound on, start tapping as you watch the tournament.

Tap for any negative comments you hear, tap for any anxiety you have as you watch, tap for any beliefs that come up about what you could or couldn’t do on that shot. Even tap for beautiful shots you see that make you feel good.

Keep tapping the entire tournament and see what happens with your golf game.

For at least one month, watch any golf tournaments without the sound or tap the entire tournament and see what happens to your golf game!
